Classic Sri Lanka Private Round Tour
The perfect first-time Sri Lanka journey — heritage, hill country, wildlife and beaches in one beautifully paced private tour.
Southern Coast
Galle Fort is the best-preserved colonial fortification in Asia, built by the Dutch East India Company in 1663 and expanded in 1729. The fort walls stretch for 36 kilometres around a headland that juts into the Indian Ocean, enclosing an entire living town of 3,000 residents. Inside the walls: cobblestone lanes, Dutch Reformed churches, a lighthouse, the National Maritime Museum, boutique jewellery shops, independent galleries, cafes and some of Sri Lanka's most beautiful heritage hotels. The fort's character comes from its contradictions — ancient walls and artisan boutiques, Buddhist shrines and Calvinist churches, schoolchildren in uniforms and international travellers with cameras.
