  • Airport or Colombo pickup and drive north to the Cultural Triangle (approx. 4 hours). En route stop at Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage — the world's largest captive elephant herd. Afternoon arrival at Sigiriya and evening walk in the village.
  • Early 6:30 AM climb of Sigiriya Rock Fortress — ascending through water gardens, past the famous Sigiriya frescoes, up the iron stairways to the 5th century summit palace with 360° jungle views. Afternoon: Dambulla Royal Cave Temple — five natural caves housing over 150 Buddha images painted in vivid reds, golds and blues.
  • Drive east to Polonnaruwa (approx. 1 hour). Rent bicycles and ride through the medieval royal capital founded in the 11th century.   • Morning at leisure or optional visit to Mihintale — the sacred mountain where Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka in 247 BC. Return transfer to Colombo or extend your journey to Kandy, Trincomalee or Sigiriya for one more night.
